In the opening quarter of 2026, Anberry Transitional Care was the second largest nursing facility in Merced County, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.
Facility data indicate the center provided 120 beds—42 more than the county average for the period. On average, it cared for 91.8 residents each day throughout that time frame.
The CMS gave Anberry Transitional Care an overall rating of 3 out of 5, which was slightly below California’s statewide nursing home average of 3.2.
Golden Merced Care Center led the county with 121 available beds during the quarter, while Anberry Nursing and Rehabilitation Center took third with 99 beds supplied.
By the end of the first quarter of 2026, Anberry Transitional Care had not recorded any fines or penalties.
Altogether, there were eight for-profit nursing homes in Merced County, California.
Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show the nation’s population of older adults continues to increase while the number of younger Americans declines. Between 2020 and 2024, people in the U.S. ages 65 and older grew by 13%, while the population under 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the past century, the country’s older population expanded significantly from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.
A 2021 brief found that nearly 28 million adults in this group—almost half—will likely need long-term services and supports, with more than a third expected to require nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
