Los Banos Post Acute operates as a for-profit facility.

During the first quarter, the facility received an overall CMS rating of 2, which falls below California’s average rating of 3.2 for nursing homes. CMS bases ratings on factors including health inspections, staff numbers, and quality of care for residents.

CMS data shows Los Banos Post Acute cared for an average of 54.8 residents per day in the first quarter of 2026, with a total of 59 beds available. The facility is not associated with any hospital.

In the first quarter of 2026, Los Banos Post Acute did not receive any fines or penalties.

Altogether, Merced County had eight for-profit nursing home facilities during that period.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the nation’s older adult population keeps rising, while the number of younger people continues to decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older increased by 13%, while the under-18 population dropped by 1.7%. Over the past century, the older adult population in the U.S. has surged—from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study found that almost half of Americans in this age group—about 28 million—are likely to require long-term services and support. The same study predicts that more than a third may eventually need care in a nursing home.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
