Majestic Mountain Care Center was the second largest nursing home in Madera County during the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.
The facility had 66 beds available, which is 14 fewer than the average for Madera County in the first quarter of 2026. On average, 61.1 residents stayed at the center throughout the quarter.
The CMS gave Majestic Mountain Care Center a 1 out of 5 overall rating, lower than the California state nursing home average of 3.2.
For the same quarter, Madera Rehabilitation & Nursing Center led the county with 176 beds available, while Palms Care Center was third with 65 beds.
As of the first quarter of 2026, Majestic Mountain Care Center had incurred $252,683 from two fines and faced a total of four penalties.
There were four for-profit nursing homes in Madera County, California, at that time.
The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that the U.S. senior population keeps increasing while younger groups decrease. Americans age 65 and older rose by 13% from 2020 to 2024, as the under 18 group dropped by 1.7%. Older adults now exceed 61 million, compared to 4.9 million in 1920.
Research published in 2021 suggests nearly half of Americans in this age group, about 28 million, may eventually rely on long-term services and support. More than one-third could require care in a nursing home, according to study projections.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
