CITY OF MERCED: City launches MercedCommunityCalendar.org

Jyowrcnc

City of Merced issued the following announcement on Dec 4.

The Merced Community Calendar is a great way to let people know about your event, gain a larger audience, or find out what is going on in Merced.

The Merced Community Calendar debuts this month at www.MercedCommunityCalendar.org. This feature of the City of Merced allows people to publicize community events, activities, fundraisers and meetings in one central location.

During the current phase of the coronavirus pandemic, only virtual activities will be posted on the calendar.

“For a long time we’ve been hearing that Merced needed to have one central calendar for all the different events that are going on,” said City Manager Stephanie Dietz. “After the Arts and Culture Commission was created, they asked if we could administer a calendar that would bring together the diverse groups in the City and all their activities in one place.

“We want the Merced Community Calendar to serve as a kind of glue that binds the community together,” Dietz said. “Even in the middle of a pandemic, there are all kinds of virtual activities and fundraisers that are going on.”

“With our thriving arts community, and all of the cultural events and activities we have, both pre-pandemic and during the pandemic, the Merced Community Calendar is a valuable resource to everyone,” said Colton Dennis, the chair of the Arts and Culture Advisory Commission. “Its value will only grow.”

A few examples of virtual events that can be submitted to the Community Calendar include: fundraising events for non-profit agencies and schools, informational seminars or meetings, virtual plays or concerts.

People can post photos, maps, fliers or other illustrations to accompany their posting. There can be a fee for the event, but it must be for the benefit of a non-profit, school or agency.

The Community Calendar is for events open to the public in the Greater Merced area.  The Greater Merced area is the area in and around Merced that either has a Merced mailing address or Zip Code.

Posted events can be shared on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The easy-to-navigate site is designed to be read on phones, tablets and home devices.

The calendar is moderated by the City, and all calendar items must be approved before they will be posted online. The calendar cannot be used for events promoting a specific religious or political activity, event or belief. It cannot be used to promote discrimination, illegal activities or sexual content. It is not for solicitations of commerce, such as yard sales, or grand openings. More details are available under “Terms of Service” on the Merced Community Calendar home page.

People who post must be 18. Anonymous or incomplete submissions will not be posted.

There may be additional requirements for events that have been posted on the Community Calendar. All necessary permitting, reservations, road closures, security requirements and safety resources are the responsibility of the event organizers, regardless of who has posted the event.
