Congressman John Duarte from California's 13th district has partnered with Congressman Michael Guest of Mississippi's 3rd district to introduce a bipartisan resolution in recognition of Veterans Day. This initiative aims to honor the service and sacrifices made by veterans from the Valley and their families.
The resolution underscores the importance of Veterans Day, a day dedicated to acknowledging all who have served in the United States military. It emphasizes how veterans have been instrumental in preserving American freedoms throughout history, alongside recognizing the sacrifices made by their families. The resolution also stresses the necessity of ensuring that veterans receive the care and support they deserve.
“Our Valley veterans embody the best of American values—courage, service, and sacrifice. Their dedication inspires us all,” stated Rep. Duarte. “I’m proud to join my colleagues from both parties in honoring our veterans.”
Veterans Day was established in 1954 as a day to honor all American veterans, both past and present. As of 2023, there are over 18 million veterans residing in the United States. California is home to approximately 1.35 million veterans, which constitutes about 7.3% of the nation's veteran population. In particular, 18,290 veterans reside in the Valley region, including 16,534 men and 1,756 women, highlighting their significant role in both its history and future.
The resolution calls attention to supporting services for Valley veterans and acknowledges the contributions of advocacy organizations working on behalf of these individuals and their families.
