Madera County issued the following announcement on Dec 30.
The City of Madera would like to congratulate Battalion Chief James (Jimbo) Forga as he retires with over 39 years of service. An incredible leader, colleague, and role model, Chief Forga has served the community of Madera with pride and has helped strengthen and shape the Madera City Fire Department into what it is today. We're sad to see him go and wish him the best in his retirement. #MaderaProud
Chief Forga began his fire service career in 1981 as a Seasonal Firefighter (FF1) for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) at the Raymond F.F.S. with Madera, Mariposa, Merced Ranger Unit (MMU). In 1985 Chief Forga attended Columbia Community College and was promoted to Captain at Columbia College Fire Department. In 1987 he returned to MMU as an FF1, working out of Mariposa F.F.S. In 1989 he was promoted to Fire Apparatus Engineer (FAE) and worked at Madera County Fire Station 12. In 1993 he was promoted to Fire Captain (FC) at the Mt. Bullion Youth Conservation Camp, then in 1997, he transferred to the Emergency Command Center (ECC) for MMU. In 2002 he was promoted to Battalion Chief of the ECC. In 2013, he transferred into the Administrative Battalion Chief position with Madera County Fire. In 2013, Chief Forga transferred into the position of Madera City’s Battalion Chief.
