Washington, D.C. - Congressman John Duarte (CA-13) announced Clarissa Sales as the winner of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for California’s 13th Congressional District. Madyson Daniels and Eliana Gloria placed second and third, respectively.
“Each year, the Congressional Art Competition reveals the remarkable artistic talent and dedication of students in our community," said Congressman John Duarte. "Clarissa's painting will be wonderful to showcase here in the U.S. Capitol, and I look forward to seeing it as I come to work each day! Congratulations to Madyson and Eliana on finishing second and third with their amazing pieces of artwork as well, and thanks to all the students who participated in this event."
The winning piece, "Panaderia" by Clarissa Sales, was created under the mentorship of her art teacher Sarah Hill. The vibrant painting, made with alcohol markers and colored pencils, depicts a Mexican bakery scene from her hometown of Merced.
Second place went to Madyson Daniels from Central Valley High School for her acrylic painting “The Beauty Within,” completed under the guidance of her art teacher Kari Copley. This artwork will be displayed in Congressman Duarte’s Washington office.
Eliana Gloria from Modesto High School won third place with her acrylic painting “Soulful vs. Soulless,” mentored by her art teacher Debra Drake. This piece will be showcased in Congressman Duarte’s district office.
The Congressional Art Competition is an annual event open to high school students across the United States. First place winner Clarissa will have the opportunity to visit Washington, where she will meet with Congressman Duarte and see her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol complex.
Further details about the competition and instructions for submitting artwork can be found on Congressman Duarte's official website.
