Ribbon cut

City of Atwater recently issued the following announcement.

On Thursday, October 22nd, the Atwater City Council and staff unveiled the B-52 Splash Park located at Veterans Park on Bellevue and Buhach Road. This project was identified by the City Council during their Strategic Planning session and approved in March 2019.There was no cost to the City’s General Fund for the project the facility was paid for by using Park Impact Fees.  Park Impact Fees can only be used for specific items such as new park features or new parks, the funds can not be used for things typically paid for by the General Fund, such as police officers.

Mayor Paul Creighton had this to say “This is an extremely exciting day for Atwater residents, and I’m very happy to welcome families to the City’s first splash park located at the renovated Veterans Park. The updated amenities will inspire fun and physical activity for people of all ages, and the accessibility features will foster a welcoming environment for all.”

The B-52 Splash Park features 17 family friendly water features on a touch-n-go timer and is equipped with a special water recirculation system. Recirculation of used Splash Park water avoids water waste and captured water is then subsequently treated for disinfection of contaminants in compliance with Merced County Department of Public Health, Division of Environmental Health. This is a safe and environmentally friendly way to deliver an enjoyable, safe experience for visitors while also being safety conscious and water efficient.

“I am leaving the City Council with so many positive things to be proud of in the last four years.  This splash park is something that everyone can see and touch, and I am very proud to have had a part in this project” says Council Member Cindy Vierra.
