CITY OF CHOWCHILLA: A few minutes with the Mayor Diana Palmer

Cityhall

City of Chowchilla issued the following announcement on Dec 23.

Hello Community Members,

I feel very honored to be able to bring you this update as your new Mayor.  I understand the community likes to stay informed about Chowchilla's latest activities, and I welcome the opportunity to continue to keep you updated.

As you all know, there has been a recent surge of COVID cases everywhere, even in Chowchilla. COVID-19 is nationwide and has affected millions of people.  However, it is heart-wrenching when it hits our hometown because we know the affected people personally.  Chowchilla has recently lost some wonderful pillars of our community to this virus, and several others are continuing to battle it. To the families who have lost their loved ones, I send you our deepest sympathy; please know you are all in our thoughts and prayers in this difficult time.

I ask you all to please take every precaution possible to keep your families safe.  Stay home when you can, continue to wash your hands, stay six feet apart, and wear a mask. Although 2020 is coming to an end, our battle against this virus is not over, and it will continue into the next year, where we all hope to one day see an end to this pandemic. Until then, please continue to support our local businesses and restaurants.

Our Christmas holiday will be very different from the years past; I encourage you to stay positive and continue to care for your neighbors as so many of you always do. I encourage you to continue to find safe and creative ways to make this Christmas season joyful. Chowchilla is known for taking care of our own, and the community has not fallen short of that this year, even in the toughest of times. You all continue to make me proud to represent Chowchilla as you repeatedly answer the call of your fellow neighbors in need. Thank you to all of you who lend a helping hand; your selfless acts have not gone unnoticed.

I want to take a quick moment to thank our four city employees who received their service awards this year; Ryan Hunter – 10 years of service, David Burnett – 10 years of service, Chief David Riviere – 15 years of service, and Janene Hicks – 20 years of service. We appreciate your long-term dedication and service to our community.

Until the next update, please take care, stay safe, and have a very Merry Christmas!

Diana Palmer
